Digital Mammography: A Lifesaving Step this Breast Cancer Awareness Month By North East Cancer Hospital & Research Institute, Jorabat, Assam
Our cancer survivors stand as symbols of resilience and hope, and through their stories we are reminded that early detection can save lives. This month, we are proud to share their journeys through a short video, showcasing the courage and strength that inspires us to continue our mission.

Why Digital Mammography Matters

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in India, and its risk increases significantly after the age of 40. Statistics reveal that 1 in 28 Indian women are expected to develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

Digital Mammography has revolutionized breast cancer screening. Unlike traditional methods, it offers clearer images, better detection of abnormalities, and lower radiation exposure. Importantly, mammograms can detect lesions 1–3 years before they can be felt in a self-exam, making it one of the most effective tools for early diagnosis.

At NECHRI, we believe:
Self-care is non-negotiable – regular screenings reflect responsibility towards one’s health.
Early detection saves lives – timely diagnosis increases treatment success rates.
Radiation from mammograms is very low – ensuring safety along with accuracy.
Encouraging women to get annual mammograms makes them role models in their families and communities.

Breaking Myths, Sharing Facts
Awareness also means addressing the myths that often discourage women from undergoing mammograms.
Myth: If I don't have a family history, I won't get breast cancer.
Fact: 9 out of 10 people diagnosed have no family history.
Myth: All breast lumps are cancerous.
Fact: 8 out of 10 breast lumps are not cancers.
Myth: Breast cancer is contagious.
Fact: It cannot be transmitted from one person to another.
Myth: Only middle-aged or older women get breast cancer.
Fact: Younger women – and even men – can also be affected.
Myth: Women with breast implants cannot undergo mammograms.
Fact: They can, but must inform the technician beforehand.
