NECHRI Marks World Cancer Day 2026 with Awareness Rally in Guwahati
North East Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (NECHRI) observed World Cancer Day on 4th February 2026 by organising a meaningful awareness rally in Guwahati, bringing together doctors, nurses, and staff under this year’s global theme, “United by Unique.†The initiative aimed to highlight the importance of cancer prevention, early detection, and collective community support.
A Rally for Awareness and Action
The rally was flagged off from the NECHRI campus and proceeded towards Jorabat before returning, symbolising a shared journey toward better awareness and timely care. Leading the rally were Dr. Raj Changkakoty, Director at NECHRI, along with Dr. Jumi Borgohain, Dr. D. K. Nath, and Dr. Abhishek Dewra. Their participation, alongside hospital nurses and staff, reinforced the institution’s united commitment to fighting cancer through awareness and education.
World Cancer Day serves as a global reminder that cancer affects individuals in unique ways, but the fight against it is a collective responsibility. By participating in the rally, NECHRI’s team sought to encourage conversations around screening, early diagnosis, and lifestyle changes that reduce cancer risk.
Spreading the Message of Early Detection
One of the key goals of the rally was to stress that early detection saves lives. Many cancers, when identified in their initial stages, can be treated more effectively with better outcomes. Public awareness plays a vital role in ensuring that individuals recognise warning signs and seek medical advice without delay.
Through banners, messages, and community interaction along the rally route, NECHRI’s team emphasized:
* The importance of regular health checkups and cancer screenings
* Avoiding tobacco and limiting alcohol consumption
* Paying attention to unusual or persistent symptoms
* Supporting friends and family members undergoing cancer treatment
“United by Unique†– A Shared Commitment
The theme “United by Unique†highlights that every cancer journey is different, yet communities, caregivers, and healthcare providers stand together in support. NECHRI’s rally embodied this message by bringing together professionals from different departments, all working toward one goal: better cancer awareness and patient outcomes in Assam and the North East.
NECHRI’s Ongoing Commitment
As one of Northeast India’s leading cancer care centres, NECHRI continues to focus on both advanced treatment and community awareness initiatives. Events like the World Cancer Day rally strengthen the bridge between hospitals and the communities they serve, encouraging people to take proactive steps toward their health.
NECHRI extends gratitude to all participants who joined the rally and reaffirmed their commitment to spreading awareness. Together, through education and early action, we can move closer to reducing the burden of cancer.
